What is Wales Council for Voluntary Action
Wales Council for Voluntary Action is the voice of the voluntary sector. It represents and campaigns for voluntary organisations, volunteers and communities in Wales.
WCVA represents the sector at a European, UK and national level, and together with a range of specialist agencies, county voluntary councils, volunteer bureaux and other development agencies, it provides a support structure for the sector in Wales.
WCVA is a membership organisation of almost 2,000 members including national organisations, local community groups and individuals. Membership is open to any voluntary organisation or individual working within the voluntary sector in addition to individuals and organisations from the public and private sectors.
Full members can nominate and elect members to the WCVA board. The board has 36 members, is legally and financially responsible for the organisation, and determines its policy.
WCVA is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. It has sister Councils in England (NCVO), Scotland (SCVO) and Northern Ireland (NICVA). Approximately 115 members of staff are employed at WCVA’s headquarters in Cardiff Bay, and in its offices in Colwyn Bay, Lampeter and Newtown.
